I am sure you would agree with me, that dribbling of a soccer ball is the most amazing aspect of any soccer game, performed during free soccer drills. The fundamental mistake that players make during dribbling of a soccer ball is that they forget the environment and solely focus on the ball.

Let me share with you one drill that has been used over and over again in soccer practice to teach young players how to dribble a soccer ball because it is a lot of fun. It teaches the players how to look for space and make the most of it.

A coach’s major challenge is to teach the young players to be aware of the environment while they have got the ball with them.

The most often used drill to teach the young players to keep their heads up while dribbling is also a lot of fun apart from teaching valuable skills.

This drill is far better than other soccer exercises which makes the players just dribble around the cones because it gives the opportunity to feel the ball and for the space close to them for their utilization.

1.Initially mark out a square of size 20 by 20 yards (the age and number of players determine the size of the square).

2. Then position half of the players on one side of the square with a ball each. Attacker is the name provided to this half of the players.

3.The square is covered by the other half of the players by spreading out. To distinguish this half of the players from the other half, they are called as Crab.

4.After the crabs had sat down, they would protect themselves with their hands. These players can walk around using their hands and feet only.

In free soccer drills we can have good fun and yet teach a lot of important points of dribbling the ball.

On the coaches’ whistle, each player dribbles the ball to the opposite side and stops the ball on the line opposed to them. The attackers are attacked by “the crabs” and when they do so, the attackers are called the Crab. The game continues until there is only one Attacker left, who becomes the winner.

In soccer coaching, the best part is that the Crabs will also learn the importance of teamwork to refuse attackers any space, and take the ball away from them, so it really becomes a win-win situation!

The most effective way in teaching the young soccer players to dribble the ball with their heads up and to cross the defenders without bumping into each other.

To conclude every player has the ability to be more alert, to react quickly and to run faster. These free soccer drills help achieve better acceleration and decision making speed.

The soccer or more commonly known as football is a game of excitement and trill. The Soccer match is played by two teams, each consisting of not more than eleven players, among them one would be the goal keeper who tries to protect the opponent team from hitting the Soccer Ball to into his teams Soccer Goal post. Up to a maximum of three substitutes may be used in any match played in an official competition organized under the auspices of FIFA, the confederations other member associations. The rules of the competition must state how many substitutes may be nominated, from three up to a maximum of seven.

The Soccer Matches may be played on natural or artificial surfaces, according to the rules of the competition. The color of artificial surfaces must be green. Where artificial surfaces are used in either competition matches between representative teams of member association’s affiliated to FIFA or international club competition matches, the surface must meet the requirements of the FIFA Quality Concept for Football Turf or the International Artificial Turf Standard, unless special dispensation is given by FIFA.

A  Soccer goals is scored when the whole of the soccer ball passes over the goal line, between the goalposts and under the crossbar, provided that no infringement of the Laws of the Game has been committed previously by the team scoring the goal.

The team scoring the greater number of Soccer goals during a match is the winner .If both teams score an equal number of goals, or if no goals are scored, the match is drawn

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following seven offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

• Kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
• Trips or attempts to trip an opponent
• Jumps at an opponent
• charges an opponent
• Strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
• pushes an opponent
• tackles an opponent

A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following three offences:

• holds an opponent
• spits at an opponent
• handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own
Penalty area)
A direct free kick is taken from the place where the offence occurs.

If, the soccer ball is in play, the goalkeeper can touch the ball again (except with his hands), before it has touched another player

• An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team, the kick to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred (see Law 13 – Position of Free Kick) If, after the ball is in play, the goalkeeper deliberately handles the ball before it has touched another player.

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if the infringement occurred outside the goalkeeper’s penalty area, the kick to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred (see Law 13 –Position of Free Kick)

A penalty kick is awarded against a team that commits one of the ten offences for which a direct free kick is awarded, inside its own penalty area and while the Soccer ball is in play. A goal may be scored directly from a penalty kick. Additional time is allowed for a penalty kick to be taken at the end of each half or at the end of periods of extra time. Ultimately it’s a game where you prevent the Soccer Ball from entering the Soccer Goal which is done by well trained players who are good at attacking and defending.

An easy way to explain to the players about the role of free soccer drills. There are no set rules. As a coach, you are free to experiment, innovate, and make your own drills and games.

For your own specific requirements the existing soccer exercises can be altered. Some of the best practices for creating a effective soccer training program.

Your plan should be accommodative. It is natural that all your plans may not work out as desired. The kids will be absent only when it rains or get sick. Make arrangement to cover all the possible obstructers.

We should have plenty of planned soccer practice games. If some do not fit into your schedule, eliminate them and go to the next. You can learn what works with the kids by going along with them.

Prior warm up before any practice session is a must. The kids should use the soccer ball apart from using regular soccer skills to warm up their body. The kids should practice kicking the ball around between their feet’s and kick the ball around.

There is plenty of free soccer drills which are fun yet can be used for warm up activity.

Each player has access to one soccer ball at least. Plan for several activities which are individualistic in nature; which can be performed using the ball. Activities such as shooting, dribbling and hitting the ball against the wall should be practiced. The player’s movement should be free and the playing area shouldn’t have any lines or marks.

Ensure the players are part of some group activities during soccer coaching upon completion of the individual activities. The drills like passing and receiving the balls are lot of fun. Make the kids play soccer grouped into team without a goalkeeper. Don’t set boundaries for this game and allow the players to hit the goals.

Upon learning to attack the players should be taught how to defend. This will lead the players to hone their own individualistic skills.

It is mandatory the kids are grouped together as a team in group activities. The kids take up some time to adjust from individual to group activities to learn the concept of team play. The nature of interaction between coach and the players should be that of guidance only.

To win matches the players should play as a unit, this should be taught to them. The drill ingrains the knowledge of playing as a group without doing much with the ball and to practice in a limited area.

This is the easiest way to conduct a soccer exercise. Be innovative and integrate different free soccer drills which will be helpful to the kids to learn.
